Human forms are composed of many different elements, shapes and sizes. Taking that as inspiration, I incorporate salvaged items and components from abandoned electronic equipment to include in my sculptures. By restructuring the components, I create forms and shapes as caricature. I also imagine what my sculpture “robots” would be comfortable with in their surroundings and create complimentary sculpture “decor” items with a similar appearance.
Seeing symmetry and shape in many of the components in technology, I restructure the salvaged components, creating forms and shapes as a structural piece of art, reusing materials that would otherwise be discarded. The equipment used in my sculptures is selected and assembled for its visual appeal and not as it would have been assembled for operation.
The primary material I use is telecommunications equipment from AT&T microwave sites that carried long distance telephone calls across the country. As technology changes, I have been able to salvage a number of old items and components to include in my sculptures
My formal education is in electrical engineering and I worked for a number of years as a commercial photographer. I combined these two influences into my current artistic endeavor.
