I’ve always been a storyteller, and over time, I’ve found that clay is the perfect medium for sharing those stories. Through my ceramic purses and briefcases, I explore the unique and collective experiences that make us who we are. Each piece I create is an attempt to bring the voices behind those stories to life.
 
When I start working on a clay purse, I have a story in mind—a memory, a trait, or an experience that speaks to the resilience or strength of a person or community. For instance, I might think about how someone overcame challenges, and that’s where the story begins. As I shape the clay, it responds, and little by little, the narrative starts to form right in front of me.
 
In many ways, a person’s bag is a representation of who they are. It holds the things they need, or sometimes even the things they imagine they need. The materials, colors, textures, and overall design of a purse all tell something unique about its owner. Just like each person has their own story, each bag reflects their personality, their history, and their community.
 
The inspiration behind my work often comes from the bags carried by people who’ve made an impact in my life—family, friends, colleagues, and even public figures like politicians and  writers.  Each piece is a portrait, a story, a moment in time, all told through the medium of ceramics.
