Every artist can look at the same subject matter and have a unique interpretation that he or she tries to translate to the viewer . . .
This Chicago native discovered a desire and ability to draw early on. He eventually majored in fine art at Phoenix College in Arizona before relocating to Loveland, CO in 1994 with his family. He has since studied in local college and private classes, including studying with local pastel artist Clive Tyler as well a workshops with Albert Handell and Ken Elliott. These instructions have provided James with valuable direction and encouragement.
Recently, James has expanded into oils with additional success. Landscapes offer a world of vibrant colors, shapes and textures that need to be explored and painted. The directness of painting in pastels provides an opportunity to add dimension and vibrancy that is unique to this medium while the joy of mixing colors in oils offers unlimited color possibilities.
In his own words: “Every artist can look at the same subject matter and have a unique interpretation that he or she tries to translate to the viewer. James hopes that his interpretations speak to each viewer and that they see a little of themselves in each painting.”
