Dawn Hendrix, originally from Rockford Illinois, relocated to Colorado in 2003.
Retired from healthcare administration, I now enjoy the experience of painting in my home studio. I am self-taught and gain inspiration from my surroundings and travels. I paint mainly in acrylic, but also in watercolor and oil. My technique is a freeform approach with a mix of contemporary and impressionist realism styles that bring a balance of colors, composition, and texture to a variety of subjects. While some of my paintings are timeless, such as a flower or landscape, others are a time stamp, a period in time such as the pandemic, homelessness, 911, or the devastation of a tornado.
As an emerging artist, I aim to bring a visceral reaction from viewers, connecting to my art with emotion and connectivity to the story or message of the painting. I often use bright colors, sometimes directly from the tube, other times, I mix soft tranquil colors for a relaxing majestic landscape or floral painting. I have mastered the ability to blend and mix acrylic paints to look like the thick richness of oil or the appearance of translucent watercolor.
