Art has always been of interest to me since I was very young. I was always creating. In elementary school my first artist goal was to draw for Disney when I grew up. Of course, that didn’t happen.
When I started college art was my declared major. However, I soon changed my major to elementary education when I found it difficult to afford all of the art materials. My plan was to pursue art at a later time.
That time came much later. Four years ago while on the Loveland studio tour, I met Vicky Russell, and signed up for her beginning pastel class. I found that I loved painting with pastels. People are my favorite subjects because I enjoy capturing their expressions as they are engaged in various activities. That could be playing a musical instrument, watching hot air balloons or sniffing a flower.
My goal is to create a painting that helps the viewer feel the same emotion my subject was feeling at the time. I also enjoy painting flowers because of their varied colors, shapes and beauty. Occasionally I like doing a landscape from photos I’ve taken on various trips. Recently I’ve begun to experiment with mixed media and acrylics. I am continuing to learn and grow as an artist. It is a passion and a process.
