"Pet Portrait Class" with Pat Saunders-White

No drawing skills needed! Pat will sketch up your animal on an 11" x 14" or 10" x 10" canvas and have it ready to paint when you come to this fun class.
Let her know what size canvas when you send her a digital of the photograph you will be using by April 6th Send to: [email protected] Pat has been painting pet portraits for 20 years and is a relaxed and fun instructor that gives you hands on instructions and demonstrations during your time together. You should bring a paint shirt and reference photos.

"Watercolor Wax Batik" 2-Day Workshop with Linda Renaud

In order to make it easier to learn the process, all participants will paint the same painting.
The workshop cost includes a fee of $20 to cover the specialty materials provided by the instructor.

DIVING INTO WATERCOLOR WAX BATIK -- 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day; hour break for lunch
The process of watercolor wax batik will be explained, demonstrated and practiced in this hands-on, intensive workshop. Learn how to select the best photos to work from, plan your painting, build the multiple layers of wax and watercolor and then do the final batiking and the “reveal.”

Topics covered will include:
- Recognizing Value Changes (light to dark)
- Review of Color – color harmonies, analogous & complementary colors
- Planning Your Painting; First Wax Application – and Initial Wash of Watercolor
- Continuing with the planning/diagramming process
- Building Up the Layers
- Batiking your painting
- The “Reveal” – removing the wax, sharing the results
If time permits, we will talk about how to proceed using your own photos, so bring your photo(s) – printed
both in color AND in black and white. Photos should be printed on plain copier paper; bigger is better than
smaller! Make sure your photos are not too dark – and have good light/highlight areas. Photos with good
light from an angle are best.

Specialty supplies provided:
- Micron pen
- Japanese/Thai papers
- Wax and brushes for use in the wax
- Rolls of newsprint
Supplies to share:
l have pots for melting wax. l’ll bring my iron also — we will need several of these for the end of the class. Newspapers - - I use clean
newsprint next to the painting as l iron, and use layers of newspapers outside that. lt takes a lot of newspapers to soak up the wax as we iron it off. lf you have extra newspapers, bring a stack!

Participants will need to bring:
- Watercolor palette
- Artist's quality watercolor paint & brushes
- Old bath towel
- Set of highlighter markers (7 colors at least)
- Masking tape
- Hair dryer
- Painting board with freezer paper taped to one side (board should be at least 12" by 14")
- Paper towels, Kleenex, Rags or Apron as desired
