In these three-hour classes students will learn

gesture
proportions
basic anatomy
rendering

This is a beginner/intermediate level class, but all are welcome to attend.

Whether you struggle in these areas or just want the extra practice, you will benefit from hands-on instruction and demonstration. Using a combination of live models and photo references students will familiarize themselves with the clothed form, and how to better incorporate it into their work.

This Level 1 class introduces Alcohol Inks to students that are new to the medium or for those needing a confidence booster. We will:

explain the color wheel & color theory as it relates to these inks,
show how to manipulate and safely apply alcohol inks, and
complete small projects on a variety of surfaces

You will gain an understanding of how this vibrant fluid ink works, how colors combine, and have a fun time exploring the foundations of what you and the medium are capable of creating.

In this Level 2 class, students of this fluid medium are ready to up their game! Participants will work on a few different surfaces of their own and achieve unique Alcohol Ink pieces to take home or to give to loved ones as gifts. Students must have taken Alcohol Inks, Level 1 before enrolling in this class.

The workshop will be held at Vicky Russell’s studio, 355 E. 2nd Street

Vicky will share her techniques combining watercolor, acrylic medium, walnut ink and pastel. We will create a finished mini painting of Long’s Peak at Vicky’s 2nd Street Studio, 355 E. 2nd Street.

During her career as a certified art educator Vicky received local, state and national recognition with numerous awards.

Gail will support, encourage, and guide you in:

planning: where to go, when, why and with whom?
what to wear, referencing the weather and your general terrain.
finding a location, with safe parking, restrooms, useful shade and level ground.
choosing a scene with a scene grid, qualifying it with a value sketch, and confidently selecting the best canvas shape.

setting up your work space. Lugging your gear to the work spot.
beginning your underpainting/canvas toning, drawing your shapes, and adding color.
what to leave in the car

All this and more, as your instructor Gail circulates among you. Lending a hand, offering another tip, seeing the “try-out” through so you are in the groove and ready to forge ahead with your own plein air experience.

The workshop will be held at Vicky Russell’s studio, 355 E. 2nd Street

Vicky will share her techniques to create fun, colorful fantasy landscapes. Students will have the opportunity to explore this fun medium. All paintings turn out differently! Students will leave with 3 separate paintings.

As an artist/instructor Vicky enjoys sharing her passion for art with her students. Her teaching style consists of demonstrating art techniques in steps toward a completed painting. She allows her students to experience the process of art making in a fun and relaxed environment. Vicky states, “My adult students have an opportunity to step out of their daily routines into a creative space for a while.”

During her career as a certified art educator Vicky has received local, state and national recognition with numerous awards.

DIVING INTO WATERCOLOR WAX BATIK

Nov 13 & 14, 2022 -- "Diving into Watercolor Batik" with Linda Renaud TVAL Member $225

The process of watercolor wax batik will be explained, demonstrated and practiced in this hands-on, intensive workshop. Learn how to select the best photos to work from, plan your painting, build the multiple layers of wax and watercolor and then do the final batiking and the “reveal.”

All participants will paint the same painting in order to make it possible to complete the project in two days. Workshop students do need to have some experience in watercolor.

Topics covered will include:
Recognizing Value Changes (light to dark)
Review of Color – color harmonies, analogous & complementary colors
Planning Your Painting; First Wax Application – and Initial Wash of Watercolor

Continuing with the planning/diagramming process
Building Up the Layers
Batiking your painting
The “Reveal” – removing the wax, sharing the results
